Overview
Hole Zero ("we," "us," "our") built this app to help golfers score rounds, run competitions, and settle up with their group. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and a password (handled securely by our authentication provider). You may optionally add a profile photo and a Venmo username.
Location. With your permission, we use your device location to find golf courses near you and to power on-course GPS features like hole maps and yardages. You can deny or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings; course search by name still works without it.
Photos. If you choose to set a profile picture, we access your photo library or camera only for that purpose, with your permission.
Gameplay data. We store the pools, leagues, and rounds you create or join, along with hole-by-hole scores, shot data you choose to log, chat messages within your pools/leagues, and wager/payout records you set up with other players.
Device information. We collect a push notification token (if you enable notifications) so we can deliver alerts about invites, chat messages, and round activity.
How we use your information
We use the information above to operate the app's core features: creating and scoring rounds, calculating leaderboards and payouts within your groups, powering GPS hole maps and club recommendations, enabling chat between players in the same pool or league, and sending push notifications you've opted into.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your data for third-party advertising.
Money and payments
Hole Zero does not process, hold, or transmit money. When you settle a wager, the app opens Venmo (a separate app you control) with the amount and recipient pre-filled; the actual transfer happens entirely within Venmo, subject to Venmo's own terms and privacy policy. We only store the Venmo username you choose to share with your group.
Third-party services
We use a small number of service providers to run the app:
- A backend database and authentication provider to store your account and gameplay data securely.
- A mapping/places service to search for golf courses by name or location.
- Open golf-course and weather data sources to provide hole layouts, yardages, and wind/elevation-adjusted club recommendations. These lookups are not linked to your personal identity.
These providers process data only as needed to deliver the features above and are not permitted to use your information for their own purposes.
Data sharing within the app
Your name, profile photo, and in-app activity (scores, chat messages, wager results) are visible to other players in the same pool or league — that's the point of a shared scorecard. Other players do not see your email address or Venmo username unless you choose to share it for settling up.
Data retention
We retain your account and gameplay data for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us (see Support).
Your choices
You can review and edit your profile information in the app at any time, revoke location or photo permissions from your device settings, disable push notifications, and request account deletion.
Children's privacy
Hole Zero is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do, and material changes will be communicated in-app.
